Since about 2014 this conference has risen to equal standing with ACL, as equal top conference in the field. From 2014, the conference stopped colocating with other conferences, which has helped to further increase its importance in NLP. Consequently it deserves an A* ranking. This year (2017) the paper submissions are 1500 papers, a massive increase over the previous year and more than 2x the 2014 number.
